| The ability to see clearly all
around and in poor light is particularly important for drivers. Some
motorists who need vision correction may not realise that their view
behind will be much less clear because of distortion in the mirror.
With ageing, light passes through to the
retina at the back of the eye and is increasingly scattered by the
lens becoming stringier or because of cataracts or other flaws.
This makes sight mistier when driving on a bright day or in the
dark when facing headlights. This can lead to eye strain and fatigue
resulting in distractions and annoyances.
Many people choose to stop driving in these
conditions but this is not always necessary as we can offer some
help. We can check your field of vision to make sure you don’t
have any problems or blind spots that may prevent you from seeing
what is happening at the side of you – in particular at junctions,
pedestrians stepping off pavements or cyclists riding alongside.
