City of London Eye Clinic Introduces Revolutionary Eye Exam
One of London's leading independent optometrist's Charles Babumba,
has expanded his services to offer a new groundbreaking addition to
an eye examination - the optomap® Retinal Exam. The
exclusive City Eyes Opticians clinic is one of the first eye-care
practices in the City of London to provide this examination which
can help diagnose a range of medical conditions as well as protecting
eye health.
Mr Babumba has built up a client list which includes
celebrities and high profile business people following an appearance
on ITV's This Morning programme where he demonstrated a new type
of contact lens on presenter Philip Schofield. Subsequently, he
was also invited to Downing Street to meet Tony Blair and attended
a reception at Buckingham Palace hosted by the Queen and the Duke
of Edinburgh.
The optomap® Retinal Exam has assisted in
the diagnosis of serious eye conditions (e.g. diabetic retinopathy,
retinal tears/detachments and macular degeneration) that often first
exhibit in the periphery of the retina and progress without symptoms.
Signs of other medical conditions such as heart disease, stroke,
and certain cancers can also be detected in the retina.
The optomap® Retinal Exam takes a digital
image of the retina, which can be immediately evaluated by the optometrists
and if necessary, emailed any where in the world for a specialist
opinion. There is no pupil dilation, no eye drops or blurred vision.
The optomap® Retinal Exam is able to take
an image of approximately 82% of the retina (the back of the eye)
in one capture compared to less than 5% that can be seen by conventional
eye examination techniques.
Mr Babumba explains: "The optomap® Retinal
Exam improves our clinical abilities to detect disease at an earlier
stage. This is critical in terms of treatment and monitoring. We
recommend that all of our patients have this important new exam
as part of their regular eye health check."
Taking only seconds to capture the image, the
optomap® Retinal Exam provides a permanent record for future
comparison thus making early detection and treatment more likely.
Available and recommended for all ages, including children, it is
a comfortable, quick and simple procedure which allows patients
to resume normal activity immediately.
Since Optos first introduced the optomap®
Retinal Exam, over ten million exams have been conducted worldwide.
City Eyes Opticians are located on Suite 91 (3rd
Floor) 65 London Wall, EC2M 5TU
The optomap® Retinal Exam is included in a comprehensive Eye
Exam and costs an additional £45. It is carried out by a fully
qualified Optometrist.

Notes to Editors:
" Scottish businessman, Douglas Anderson, founded Optos - the
company behind the optomap® Retinal Exam - after his son, Leif,
lost the sight of an eye at the age of five due to an undetected
retinal tear. He immediately set out to improve eye care examinations
and spent fifteen years researching possible solutions, which led
to the development of the optomap® Retinal Exam.
" The optomap® Retinal Exam can highlight retinal tears
and detachments, which are common in contact sports like football
and rugby and can lead to blindness.
" It has also been successful in highlighting and fighting
the early signs of potentially lethal diseases such as diabetes,
strokes and cancer and is quickly being introduced by optometrists
throughout the UK.
" The optomap® Retinal Exam is comfortable, quick and very
simple, with a digital image captured in less than a second.
" Pupil dilation - putting special eye drops into the eyes
- is not required. Nothing touches your eye at any time during the
exam, there are no side affects and you can resume your normal activities
as soon as the exam is over.
