Laser Eye Surgery

Laser surgery involves using light to cut a tiny flap in the cornea and then reposition it to reshape the eyeball and refocus the image. It’s done under local anaesthetic and the second eye may be done days or weeks after the first so the surgeon can check the results. Prescriptions of up to -10 can be treated. It can also treat long-sightedness.

Pros It’s well researched and in most cases, one will still need reading glasses from their mid forties.

Cons It costs about £600 per eye and isn’t for the squeamish. Some patients get mild but possibly permanent side-effects, such as dry eyes or distorted night vision. For very short-sighted people, it may be totally effective.

Further Information Laser surgery is relatively unregulated so its best to get a personal referral from an Optician you trust. We work with some of the best laser surgeons at Moorfields Eye Hospital. Contact us for an initial consultation or ask us for personal recommendation.
